Play-to-Earn Gaming will Make you Millions
What happens when 3.24 billion gamers move to Crypto Gaming? Crypto Gaming will become the next 1000x investment.
The online gaming industry is massive.
According to an August survey by Statista, there are 3.24 billion gamers worldwide. The gaming sector is larger than the movie and music industries combined and it is only growing larger.
What happens when 3.24 billion gamers shift from online gaming to crypto gaming?
The short answer is, that the crypto gaming sector will explode!
But don’t take my word for it…
A Crypto Game that has already made +1,000x
Let’s take a look at one of the most popular Play-to-Earn games.
Axie Infinity — ROI 121,936% (in about a year)
Likely the most successful Play-to-Earn game (to date) is Axie Infinity. According to CoinMarketCap, Axie Infinity has an ROI in excess of 121,936%. Not bad considering a majority of the gains took place over a period of just six months.
Axie Infinity is a trading and battling game that is partially developed and owned by its players. Players have the ability to develop in-game content which can then be traded within the game or on third-party sites like OpenSea.
In a prior article, I wrote how players are already earning a full-time income from this game.
However, the success of Axie in recent months has priced out many players. According to CoinGecko, players now need at least $690 to start playing the game, but this doesn’t seem to be slowing down the game's popularity considering the platform has already reached over one million active daily and over a billion in revenue, as of August this year.
While Axie Infinity is likely the most successful Play-to-Earn game in recent months, its worldwide success and popularity will only help stimulate and usher in a whole new breed of Play-to-Earn games.
This is just the beginning folks…
Play-to-Earn Marketplace
It’s not just crypto games that are seeing an explosion in growth but also the ecosystems that support them. For example, OpenSea is an NFT marketplace that supports the buying and selling of in-game content (via NFTs) for many of these games. This company has just been valued at $1.5 billion — Not bad for a company that is only 4 years old.
Hopefully, these few examples are enough to illustrate the potential of this niche gaming sector within the cryptocurrency market. Those who get in early have the potential to literally make millions.
The Play-to-Earn Revolution:
Crypto-Gaming offers one dimension that traditional online gaming has never been able to offer — the ability to earn and profit from gaming.
This single factor alone has already motivated many online gamers to shift to crypto gaming, and this trend will only increase over time.
If we are to see over 3 billion gamers shift from online gaming to crypto gaming, this quiet literally will become a gaming revolution.
How to Profit from Crypto Gaming?
There are two primary methods to profit from this upcoming crypto-gaming revolution, either play or invest.
Profit from Playing
Players have the ability to play and participate in generating in-game content, which is referred to as NFTs. This in-game content can then be sold within the game or on third-party sites like OpenSea. One example is how this 12-year-old sold his collection of NFTs for over $400,000.
Profit from Investing
The other method is to invest early in a game that has massive growth potential. Since I write primarily about altcoin investing, the remainder of this article will be dedicated to the process of determining successful games for investment.
How to Evaluate a Successful Game
Whether you are looking to play the next Axie or just invest in this niche gaming sector, you should be familiar with the elements that make up a successful game.
Although crypto gaming is relatively new, we can gain insight from already popular commercial games and apply that to the crypto gaming sector.
If you are a gamer, you will likely have an advantage over traditional investors and now have an opportunity to profit from your many hours of gaming experience.
The first step is getting an understanding of why people play online games in the first place.
Why do people play online games?
There are many motivations as to why people play games. According to one report, there are six dimensions that can be attributed to why people play online games. This can include:
- Social interaction
- Self-presentation
- Fantasy/role-playing
- Passing time/escapism
- Simple entertainment, and
- Challenge/competition.
With crypto gaming, we can add one more dimension — The ability to Play and Earn.
Elements of a Successful Game:
There are a number of elements that combined make up a successful game. When evaluating a game, take into consideration these elements:
Addictive Nature of the Game:
The game needs to be addictive. Gamers are very familiar with this aspect of gameplay. Determining the addictive nature of a game is more qualitative than quantitative. This is where a gamer’s experience comes in. If you find yourself wanting to go back and play throughout the day, it likely has some addictive qualities.
A Well-Defined Gameplay Loop:
A gameplay loop is a game design term that is used to describe the repetitive activities that a player will take while playing a game. It is, what the player DOES while playing.
A good core loop should be able to put the player in a state of flow. The player should be fully engaged in the game: nothing should distract the player’s attention from the task at hand. At the same time, the player needs to be challenged while in this state of flow. Again, if you are a gamer, you are likely fully aware of this aspect of gameplay.
Simple Gameplay Scope
The gameplay scope is the game in its entirety. The number of hours of gameplay, graphics quality, number of players supported, number of levels, quality of AI (if applicable), and other aspects that are thought out fully before the game is created. Since the most popular games will likely be played on a mobile device and the core gamers will likely be adolescents, the gameplay scope needs to be simple and refined. If you are a gamer, you are very likely to be familiar with many difficult applications of gameplay scope. For high-growth mobile games, the simpler the better.
Player Feedback
Player feedback is an essential component of gameplay. This is the ability of the player to participate in the game development. In-game content generation through the development of NFTs is an example of player feedback. The greater the ability of players to participate in the development of the gamer, generally the better it is for the success of the game.
The Gaming Ecosystem
The gaming ecosystem is also an important element in the success of a game. Both within the game and external to the game are communities, websites, and other components that help to support the players and gameplay.
How to Assess the Next Big Crypto Game?
Once you have found a game that you believe has the potential to be the next big hit, it’s important to apply some fundamentals.
The Team
The biggest driver of a successful game is the team behind it. This includes the developers and leadership driving the project. It can’t be underestimated how important the team is to the success of the project. It’s important to look for a team that has prior experience (and success) with developing teams.
Teams of between 5–20 individuals are of optimal size. A project led by a single developer is risky and very large teams are slow to pivot and often burdened by bureaucracy.
The Game
It goes without saying the game needs to exist, otherwise for all intents and purposes it’s vaporware and a high-risk endeavor. If you are a gamer, this is where your experience comes in. Does the game contain the elements of a successful game as mentioned above? Is it addictive to play? Does it have a well-defined gameplay loop? Does the player have the ability to participate in the game development? It is visually appealing? Is the gameplay scope simple enough to keep the attention of an adolescent?
Worldwide Adoption
Lastly, the factor that will determine how fast the game will grow (and its market price) depends largely on its worldwide adoption. Where do the greatest number of players originate from? Most importantly, is this game available to be played on a smartphone? The fastest game adoption will take place with mobile games — the only requirement for players is an internet connection and a smartphone.
Where to Start?
If you want to start looking for the next big crypto game, start with a Google search. There is no shortage of crypto games and new ones are popping up all the time. It will take time and effort to become familiar with this sector of the market. Focus your attention on the types of games that you are interested in and become an expert in this niche.
Likely the best resource to date is Twitter, followed by independent blogs and websites. Find your crypto gaming niche and then where possible seek out the thought leaders in that space. A large part of your time will be spent on research (and gameplay).
Are you an Avid Gamer?
If so, you are likely better qualified than most to determine the next big crypto game. Did your parents say gaming wouldn’t get you anywhere? Now it’s time to prove them wrong and profit from your years of gaming experience.
What's the Next Big Crypto Game?
The best individuals to answer this question are gamers themselves. If you are a gamer and keeping in mind the elements of a successful game, I’d like to hear your thoughts and comments.
